Mixed Media on wood, ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
The portrait Miles after GOMA is simplified yet detailed. I have chosen pokerwork as the medium as it produces an unique result. The burning etches the portrait into the timber creating a strong impression, and depending upon the position of the viewer it offers different experiences. It forces the audience to determine their own viewpoint to interpret the artwork. Like life, it is not until the audience takes a step back from the art that they can determine what the burning is all about, and therefore see the bigger picture more clearly.
After returning from an exhaustive trip to the Gallery Of Modern Art, Miles closed his eyes as if contemplating the moment. It was this that I tried to capture - the essence of serenity and innocence. Miles after GOMA is a reflective and meditative portrait that questions our own attention to the moment.
I admire Miles for his pure innocence of youth and am constantly inspired by his ability to take each moment as it is presented. Whether it is joy or sadness he expresses it without reservation. To capture a moment of his life and offer it to all that see it, hopefully enriches our own lives.
