Mixed Media on paper
Signed on the front.
In this painting, I take the human figure and I focus just on the torso, avoiding the head or the arms because I want the body dispossessed of any identity. At the same time, I want to express the fragility and strength in the human form.
In my paintings about the human figure, I explore different ways to represent what I understand as being human and I am interested in concepts and ideas that touch us all; fertility, growth, and puberty.
In my practice, my preferred mode of expression is drawing and through recent years I have developed a unique technique that allows me to create very precise lines on the surface layer of the painting using an etching needle and a special wax-based painting medium. Often layer upon layer of drawings receding into the substrate of the painting medium. This way of working allows a more free approach to painting and at the same time a very detailed working practice.
