This is the second artwork for my second series "A Night in Japan". I will be having an exhibition of this series later this year, which is why the original is not currently for sale. The original was created using Copic markers and coloured pencil. The work depicts a man walking down an alley at night while smoking. The alley is in Tokyo. He is wearing a suit, yet it is not obvious whether he is on his way home from work or heading out for the night. The bright street lights give a strong contrast to the piece which has just a few hints of colour. The series I'm creating captures fleeting moments in time such as this one, with each scene set on the same night in Tokyo, yet featuring different people in different settings.
This is a large, unframed, limited edition print. It is titled and signed. The edition number is 2/50. The colours of the print are almost identical to the original. For this print I have used a higher quality, textured paper. The paper colour is slightly off white and more in keeping with the paper used for the original. You can see the texture of the paper in the photos.
The dimensions are for the size of the image. There is a border around the image for framing, which also has my signature, title and edition number on it.
I love comic book style illustrations and animation so wanted to create an artwork in a similar style. I love Studio Ghibli films and also wanted to capture an everyday scene in Japan. I didn't use a ruler for any of the lines as I wanted to give it less of a realism/photographic look and more hand drawn.
