‘Iridescence’ is a minimalist abstract painting that features a sphere in Yves Klein blue painted on a glossy chrome silver background.
The painting focuses on form and the juxtaposition of different elements for contrasting effect - i.e. matt paint against a glossy finish, smooth surfaces combined with texture, monochrome next to strong colour etc.
In the artwork an electric blue sphere hovers over a shimmering silver base that offsets the textured spiral within the sphere. The thick matt blue paint is in sharp contrast against the reflective silver enamel backdrop.
The glossy chrome silver surface reflects the colours in the artwork’s surroundings and takes on an iridescent appearance. The changing nature of the reflective background makes the painting a bit of a chameleon in the way that it responds to the environment it’s displayed in.
The artwork is in mixed media on stretched canvas and is wired ready to hang.
