‘Superimposed’ is effectively three paintings in one, with the final layer of linear imagery sketched in paint over a painterly background that orginally began as a seascape, which over time transitioned to an atmospheric sky-scape and then morphed into an abstracted field of pastel colours.
The bold monochrome wire-frame image superimposed over the coloured backdrop depicts a stylised retro interior painted with minimalist intent. The objective for the painting has been to depict an interesting representation of an interior while retaining a sense of immediacy and freshness.
The linear sketch-like approach was deliberate in order to allow the artwork to breathe and have the appearance of a projection on canvas. The contrasting lines layered over the pastel coloured base create a moody, surreal effect, with an unusual sense of light. It appears as if the image is illuminated from within.
Ultimately the goal has been for the artwork to achieve visual harmony and balance through colour, contrast and a strong composition.
