My 'Tulipomania' series is influenced by the spectacular impression the tulip flower made on flora collectors and growers of past centuries. I particularly favour tulips that have variegated colouring (originally an effect of a plant virus) and interesting shapes. I arrange my flowers in ways that enhance the forms and give an aesthetic flow to the composition. Painting the blooms on a large scale makes for a dramatic impression on the viewer.
