Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

A few years ago we travelled to Warrnambool, we travelled along the great ocean road and stopped along the way to visit the many lighthouses along the coastline. While on holidays I decided to visit Port Fairy. We had to walk a little to get there, spotting a few kangaroos along the way, then we were there. My first impression was the beautiful contrast of colours with the dried grasses and the rocks, then this beautiful white lighthouse with its little red door.

All art by Franciska Howard

This painting is in landscape format. Flinders Street Station Entrance dominates the central section. To the right of the scene you can see all the way down to the clock tower, there is a tram and some pedestrians. To the left of the painting there is a horse and carriage. Two young girls are the focal point in this painting. One is carrying a surf board and the other is huddled in a colourful striped towel. They are walking at the waters edge, and in the background you can see an area of more beach and a hill with shrubbery. The painting of a White horse rearing occupies most of the canvas. The ochre coloured earth is being kicked up by this majestic animal which is depicted on a turquoise background. The painting depicts an outdoor restaurant that is situated along the Williamstown foreshore. In the background you can see many sailing vessels and a couple of cranes.
