Acrylic on paper

I recently decided to solely focus my attention on painting portraits. I found a series of photographs that had good clear light. I decided to research the colours Vermeer used in his painting of The Girl with the Pearl Earring, and to only use these colours. I find working with a limited colour palette helps reduce colour complications and allow my focus to be on the structure, colour values and tones of the face I am painting. I allowed myself a maximum time of 4 hours to complete the portrait, this was so I didn’t over work the painting and hopefully allow flaws and personality to show through.
