Balsa wood on a canvas, painted in acrylic paint and glazed

Description

Bright, fluorescent, intriguing, funny, multi-sensory, this piece of work attempts to represent the experience of the recent installation at Fed Square; the Arboria. A 32 metre inflatable sculpture of brightly naturally lit tunnels and domes , this sculpture allows the viewer to walk through and experience a completely unknown landscape and interior. Whilst most visitors tried to capture photos of the space absent of people, my focus was to capture the atmosphere not just through the colour and architecture but also through the people inside it, the colours reflecting off them and their sense of intrigue. This piece is multi-dimensional as I wanted to exaggerate the depth of the tunnels by building up the surface of the canvas with balsa wood. The painting changes like the Arboria itself depending on the amount of light upon it, at times it is so bright it shoots light from it onto the surrounding walls.
