Oil Paint on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
It is a hot day. The bush track leads around the Point through stands of coastal gum trees. In a rock strewn gully, dappled light highlights the fall of rocks. I am gratful for the shade of over hanging trees, a welcome respite from the heat. The rocks are warm to the touch even in the partially shaded gully. The effect of the dappled light reminds me of a Cezanne painting I saw somewhere in Europe I think. Also, of a Gerald Manley Hopkins poem. I wanted to capture the delicate light, the sense of the solidity of the rocks and the contrasting light and shade, heat and cool.
