Lots of off road camping adventures allow s me to immerse myself in the landscape. My painting process remains the same, by taking in the mood and atmosphere, sounds and palette of a place is what guides my inner journey. I start my painting with no particular intention in mind; I cover the white canvas layering thin washes of pigment and scratching back until my story comes to light. Mary Smokes Creek is favorite destination and this summer the place due the drought took on a totally different feeling. Hot and dry and the creek usually running with water was dark and swampy with rocks and gnarly vegetation exposed. Up one end a deep dark pond remained. Just something about its stillness and darkness captured my imagination.
