Artwork Description

Acrylic on wood

Signed on the front.

As an immigrant to Australia, the landscape is impossible, so vast and empty with unfamiliar colours and shapes yet it resonates with echoes of recognition. It has taken many years to feel comfortable enough to paint it. I initially found the landscape here ridiculously vast, the enormous vistas, huge skies, overwhelming scale and unfamiliar terrain have taken years to become accustomed to. As an artist, the colours, light and shapes have taken a long time to assimilate into my visual vocabulary. This painting is based on the view from my neighbour's house. Every lot in our part of Cedar Creek has a different but equally stunning view. Long grass and cobbler's pegs are the curse of acreage living providing hours of futility in attempting to keep them under control. I have been exploring how we view an expansive vista, utilising the idea of snapshots through formal divisions in the composition.
