Simple Gifts is part of an on going series which I have returend to in a range of media since I was at art college. The work seeks to honour the simple and overlooked and display the inate beauty of natural objects. Finding, selecting and arranging the objects is an important part of the process. Lately with the advent of the mindfulness movement this has taken on a larger significnace. This latest series started with walking my dogs each morning and spending time noticing. I would return home with leaves and seeds in my pockets. A trip to North Stradbroke and walks in the bush and on the beach provided more treasures. I hadn't worked in watercolour for many years and the very nature of this elusive media provided an opportunity for reflective and mindful practice.
