Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

To start the new decade, on a whim, I popped into my local framing shop to buy a large canvas to paint on a bigger scale than what I have to date. After staring at the blank canvas for a week, with a slight overwhelming feeling creeping in, I decided to stop over thinking and just start painting without any further thought or plan. When I spontaneously paint I always seem to paint flowers, particularly Australian wild flowers. I find my best work comes from when I let intuition take over.
Hearts of Gold was created with many layers of paint and a lot of overlapping of colours - some of which you can only see small glimpses of in the finished piece. I really allowed myself to brighten this painting up with splashes of bolder colours to bring a quirk factor into the piece. I love the fun and happy feeling this piece has and yet still has an air of sophistication at the same time.
