Inspired by Ladies Day at the Melbourne Cup Races, this painting has been created using a combination of acrylic and watercolour paints in vivid and soft aqua, green and neutral tones. The background transitions from a vibrant aqua colour to muted, paler tones, whilst the image of the woman has been formed by building up layers of water colours and acrylics to create an exaggerated high contrast effect. The addition of a rich matte black adds depth and brings out the beautiful aqua green shades. The 3.5 cm deep sides have been painted black to frame the painting.
