Artwork Description

This work is based on the saving of refugees by HMAS SWAN in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. Over 75 people were crowded into a 42-foot boat. The passengers included 37 children under the age of 12. A baby was born on board. Afetr three days and being pursued by a Vietnamese Navy patrol vessel the boat was intercepted and saved by the Australian Navy ship HMAS SWAN. What makes this so meaningful was that twenty four years later the baby born onboard would end up working for my husband. My husband was the Officer of The watch who saw the refugee vessel and responded all those years earlier. They discovered this over mornign coffee.
