This artwork was created in 2009 at Box Hill institute of TAFE (CAE) Visual Art and Contemporary Craft certificate course, (Melbourne) Under the the tuition of renowned Printmaker, Rona Green. It marked the return to art making after child-making for me!
I particularly loved this project as the philosophy behind creating it resonated with me then, and continues to now. That is, to creatively and resourcefully use what you have around you to create with. This works in so many aspects of life! Cooking, eg : creatively reimagining left-overs in the fridge to create dinner! Gardening; Re-inventing or renovating purposefully when decorating/furnishing your house. Entertaining children; Just finding solutions to problems with what you have at hand.
This art work was created out of very limited, uncomplicated materials supplied. A task to complete within a time limit of around 3 hours.
Using newspapers, brown craft/drafting paper, black, white, red acrylic paint, ink, torn and cut paper shapes.
Indexes, old phone books! Almost obsolete materials in a short period of time - and reinventing them in a sense.

The inspiration for it was based on a quote I love:
‘The greatest thing in the world is the alphabet, as all the answers are contained therein, except the knowledge and wisdom of putting it together’ (author unknown)

This artwork is beautifully framed within timeless oak and glass.
Until this time it has hung in my home, study area which was a great fit. ..the communication hub. But since recently moving/downsizing I haven’t been able to find a space for it and it just doesn’t ‘sing’ in my new surroundings. I would love it to be repurposed into the perfect new space.
