Jacqueline Butterworth is an emerging artist based in Sydney, NSW. Working primarily in oils she creates beautifully detailed, yet often unexpected paintings that draw from her personal experiences.
Over the past few years she has explored themes which reflect on the transient nature of the things we love - a recurring pre-occupation that stems from both old and new losses for the artist. Despite this, Jacqueline describes her work as being tempered by a doggedly persistent hopefulness, resulting in paintings that are both optimistic and just a little bit surreal.
Since attaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Jacqueline has exhibited in a number of collaborative exhibitions and as a finalist in prize shows within NSW, QLD and VIC.
In 2015, she took a break from painting to carry out a self guided art tour of the UK and Italy, where she took part in workshops with a particular focus on classical painting.
After returning to Sydney, Jacqueline was awarded two six month residencies at Waverley Artist Studios and Warringah Creative Space respectively, and in 2016 she held her first solo exhibition at Bondi Pavilion Gallery.
Currently Jacqueline is a resident artist at SQ1 Studios, hard at work on her next projects.
