In this painting I wanted the background to have a gentle texture as well as the ovoid forms daintily drifting across the surface. The background in this painting has the beautiful texture of the raw Belgian linen coming through the subtle whites. Gestural brush marks add texture that acts as contrast to ovoid life like forms floating peacefully on the surface.
I was thinking of the haphazard patterns raindrops make on windscreens or concrete pathways and how beautiful this is but also how it connects with the random cellular patterns on a microscopic slide.
This painting belongs to my ‘Life Enlarged’ series where my paintings explore the sublime of the small. I subvert the miniscule patterns of life, microscopic and molecular formations, and enlarge them into expansive paintings where illusionary forms gather and float in fields of vast space. The circular organic motifs allude to cellular life forms, dainty miniscule-life and in the random arrangement, the rhythmic patterns of natural forms that so often stop us in our tracks in awe of their magnificence.
I have had several successful gallery exhibitions and received some acclaim as an emerging modern artist. My artworks are well received and enjoyed by audiences around the world. David Thomas in his essay on my artwork describes my paintings as ‘seriously considered works of technical and creative assurance.’ I aspire to make beautiful original artworks from my studio in Melbourne, Australia.
