This is an original, one off, abstract painting on canvas ready to hang on your beautiful wall.

‘Aqueous Bloom Rock Pool Musings I’ continues in my fascination with the minutiae of life and aquatic themes. It belongs to my ‘Bio Bloom’ & ‘Aquatic’ Series’ exploring the sublime beauty of microscopic life and the natural world as I am deeply inspired by nature and the forces that shape it. All the amazing tiny fragments of the universe and patterns of life. Cellular forms, molecules, skins, body forms, minuscule plant growth and of course I can never escape the Oceans pull on me. I grew in and by the sea. Biological organisms, magnificent corals, seaweeds, algae, shell forms and all manner of sea creatures from my memories of Snorkelling and rock-pooling around my local beaches. All these things I think about and look at when I am creating these paintings.

‘Aqueous Bloom Rock Pool Musings I’ can be viewed as minuscule cell life just as easily as an underwater sea garden with drifting corals and barnacle blooms. Ultimately it is about our sense of awe and wonder at these miraculous building blocks of life.

I really enjoy the simplicity and minimal palette on this painting with enough detail and patterning to keep a sense of play and intrigue. There is a dramatic interplay between light and dark negative space and the palette is simplified with subtle tonal transitions and tinged with a touch of blue-black creating a striking illumination in areas cross the dark field. This black background also creates a kind of otherworldly tranquillity like deep water, the perfect backdrop for the fragile fragments of nature and cell-like forms drifting across the surface.

This dark background space also alludes to Dark-field microscopy. This is a light technique used in microscopic photography to illuminate the focus of the scientific subject from the field around it. So often it is all about looking and seeing! I have always adored the drama of high contrast dark and light. So much so that earlier on in my pre-Art School days, most of my drawings resembled X-rays, I then started drawing inspiration from actual X-rays. Now I find it also speaks of our circulating Covid19 medical pandemic, genomics (genetic tracing) and scientific research for a cure. Which is so much about looking hard into a particular thing.

Ultimately, what I enjoy most about my paintings are that they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls intrigue, beauty and a talking point for years to come.

I have reduced the price of this painting due to the effect of Corona Virus on the world economy and my income. I am hoping it helps some buyers to beautify their homes in this current situation and be able to support a sole trader - artist (that's me), at the same time.
Prices will return to normal when the world does.
