This is an original, one off, large abstract painting on canvas ready to hang on your beautiful wall.
My paintings are inspired by amazing microscopic worlds, nature’s weird formations and all things aquatic.
This painting belongs to my ‘Life Enlarged’ series exploring the tiny minutiae of life and objects, things that are real but cannot be seen with normal sight. At a microscopic level, I am inspired by the unusual space and vastness within the tiniest aspects of life. In particularly cell growth, minuscule DNA threads, nerve cells, bones, plant life and of course, as I grew up by the sea, I can never escape the otherworldliness of underwater sea life such as coral, threadlike sea animals, kelp beds and seaweed growth.
A few years back, as I swept the dust from my studio floor, I wondered what these scraps would look like under the microscope. These amazing little particles indeed created stunning energetic visual patterns. They almost seemed to emit a life force of their own. Exploiting this vision, together with my materials and my mark making, I wanted to recreate the feeling of excitement and vibrancy of discovering these tiny little particles into a painting. I worked quite primitively with my brush markings and repeating the gestural mark making over and over in layers and layers I tried to form a kind of tension or inner force across the surface of the painting. I wanted the painting to have a kind of erratic energy, beautiful and vibrant.
There is a real beauty of within enlarged particles of things like dust, cells, algae and bacterium under the microscope. So ultimately the paintings are about our sense of awe and wonder at these miraculous little blocks of life.
I love the subtle colours, transitions and fluidity and expressiveness of this way of painting. It has a beautiful raw energy and authentic simplicity. It speaks of the forces and power in the natural world.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls finesse with a great talking point for years to come.

I have tried to keep the prices of my paintings lower than usual due to the effect of Corona Virus on the world economy and my income. I am hoping it helps some buyers to beautify their homes in this current situation and be able to support a sole trader - artist (that's me), at the same time.
Prices will return to normal when the world does.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacquelyn Stephens is a Melbourne based artist who has been successfully exhibiting her paintings for over 20 years since completing a BFA in Painting at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. She has gained an extensive knowledge of Art, quality art materials, techniques and theory from working closely within the arts industries and in her own art practice. Jacquelyn works full time from her studio on the Melbourne fringe. She has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in commercial galleries and artists run spaces. Her paintings can be seen in many media publications and are held in private collections worldwide. Many of the key themes in her work have been informed by her interest in water, nature, science, the environment and the domain of medicine.
