Beautiful bright one from my Aqua Vitae Series, about and inspired by wine and the ‘waters of life’ or ‘Aqua Vitae’.
This body of work was created around a commission I did inspired by the poetics and history of Wine. Although this one is more citrus based, more towards fruity nectar and lighter rose wine varietals perhaps, thus it still comes from the same series.
In this painting the background has a gentle texture as well as the ovoid forms daintily drifting across the surface. The background in this painting has the beautiful texture of the raw Belgian linen peeking through the subtle whites. Gestural brush marks add texture that acts as contrast to ovoid life like forms floating peacefully on the surface. The vivacious and earthy colours of the round forms speak of a spritz and a modest simplicity on the palette.
And of course it connects perfectly with my molecular-cellular biological abstraction. Here I am really pushing the colour and light vibrancy. Life over-enlarged until all that remains is vibration and colour.
Such a joy to look into the lush characteristics of wine. The generous warm tones on the palette and on the eye. The richness, generosity and depth. And then looking into the glass from above, the jewel of light coming through the colour, the wave of the swirl. I could go on forever about the richness of these experiences and the layers of history, but the pleasure is in the painting and the glass.
Anecdotally the grey ovoids you see in this painting came from my friends experiment with wine fermentation in these beautiful concrete egg shaped barrels from France. After a visit to his winery I found these so adorable and quirky they could not help find their way into my painting.

What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as adding a splash of colour to their walls.

ALL PAINTINGS ARE VARNISHED with Professional Quality Artists Varnish, once they have been photographed. This gives a protective surface and an exquisite sheen that really makes the colours powerful & eye-catching.
The painting is on canvas wrapped around traditional wooden stretcher bars with edges that are a smart 3.5cm deep out from your wall.
The edges are cleaned, staple free and left as raw linen to compliment earthiness of this painting.
Ready to put on your wall with hanging wire on back.
Painting is signed and titled verso.
