This painting belongs to my ‘Life Enlarged’ series and looks at the tiny minutiae of life and objects, those things that are real but cannot be seen with normal sight. I was inspired to recreate the feeling of excitement and vibrancy of these tiny particles and molecules as seen in microscopic and sub-atomic images. I wanted the painting to have a kind of erratic energy, beautiful and vibrant.
In this painting I also wanted the background to have a dynamic as well as the round forms dancing across the surface. The background is much textured and the colour peeks out from behind in a flash of rich tangerine and vermillion. It is almost like this vermillion wants to burst out from behind to join the surface action.
I was also thinking of the random patterns raindrops on windscreens or concrete pathways and how beautiful this is but also connects with cellular patterns on a microscopic slide.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls finesse and with a splash of colour for years to come.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacquelyn Stephens is a Melbourne based artist who has been successfully exhibiting her paintings for over 20 years since completing a BFA in Painting at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. She has gained an extensive knowledge of Art, quality art materials, techniques and theory from working closely within in the arts industries and in her own art practice. Jacquelyn works full time from her studio on the Melbourne fringe. She has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in commercial galleries and artists run spaces. Her paintings can be seen in many media publications and are held in private collections worldwide. Many of the key themes in her work have been informed by her interest in water, nature, science and the domain of medicine.
