This is in my home town of Hervey Bay from a photo I took while returning for a visit a while back. The pier at Urangan is very long (about 1km) and I remember as a child my little legs getting too tired to walk all the way to the end and back again. I loved this original photo and was itching to paint it as it gives perspective to the length of the pier and gives the impression of it's age with the peeling paint (although I'm sure it's been repainted quite a few times since 1917). The water in Hervey Bay is calm and flat, protected by Fraser Island, and for many years I thought that's what all beaches were like until I got dumped by a wave at Noosa.
