This painting was inspired by my travels through India and Nepal in 1995 - 1996. Losing my SLR camera on arrival in India was a blessing in disguise as I then took the time to sit and draw my experiences, engaging with local people and landscapes. Drawing often provides an instant rapport with the subject as they can see and enjoy their image captured immediately before their eyes. Many of my drawings remain with the sitter, just a vague imprint now on my memory.
I spent a week in the village of a local friend Durga and his parents quickly became my grandparents and were a delight to sit with and observe as they went about their daily routines.
This artwork is framed in a natural oak floating frame.
