Artist Statement
I have visited Tasmania a number of times where I have been captivated by the contrasts within this hidden paradise. From the ocean blues to the mountain greens, to the bright fields of purple lavender and brilliant poppies. In recent years there has been excitement over the discovery of rare corals and marine life found in the reefs off Tasmania’s east coast. Six new coral species have also been discovered in the Tamar River estuary.

My submission ‘Soft Corals in the Tamar’ is an expression through colour, shape and texture the exhilaration and revelation of such a discovery, perhaps reflective of the landing and exploration of John Glover and his family in the Tamar River in 1831.
