‘Once there were ‘outside’ and ‘inside’ paintings – now there is no difference.’
Fred Williams
I have introduced a higher level of abstraction into this one, and have been looking at a number of different artist’s work, including the Australian great – Fred Williams.
Fred’s work was unique in that he was able through prolonged and intensified studies to see the landscape in it’s singular and raw form and represent it as such. Looking more closely at his work as I have of late, it occurs to me that he was more successful in breaking down and then reconstructing space than Picasso and Braques’ attempts at Cubism – certainly to my eye, he was more melodic about it.
In this little piece, I have taken some elements of the lake at Chateau Javazary here in France nearby and reconstructed an abstracted impression of the view, leaving enough information for the beholder to recognise that it could be a lake – the title is a dead giveaway!
