Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

….of the two I have liked the river best. It is wonderful to have the duty of being on the river the first and last thing every day. I have loved it even in the rain. Sometimes I have loved it most in the rain.’
Wendell Berry

This a view of a riverside path along the Charente river in France which I painted a while ago. It is the second version of the same scene – the first one is in a private collection in the USA I recall.

Painted in the early autumn, it certainly is/was a joy to be able to go out to the river, find a great spot, set up my painting kit, and paint away quietly whilst listening to Bach and Co on my headphones. Funnily enough, this park is most often deserted, and I was the only one there for the most part.
