Artwork Description

Acrylic on paper

Signed on the front.

Van Gogh's influence on my art journey throughife led me to many wonderful places in the south of France: Arles and St. Remy. The wind in the south of France is very intense and is said to drive some people to madness or extreme behaviour.

The rising harvest moon shines on the fully ripened fields of grain. This is a textiles portrait of Coco Chanel using vintage fabrics, hand beading, and a vintage pearl necklace which I won in a competition in the 80s.During a time of lockdown and pandemic, I listened to Jane Siberry’s “Calling All Angels” which inspired this work.
 “Walk me through this world,
Don’t leave me alone
Calling all Angels.”Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian fashion designer, working in Paris during the Two World Wars. Her greatest rival was Coco Chanel. Elsa is regarded as one of the most prominent designers of her time. She was influenced by the Surrealist Movement and was influenced by Dali, Man Ray and Cocteau. Some of her gowns even had representations of their art stitched onto them such as a quirky lobster. Her favourite colour was hot pink.
