Jeff Moorfoot was born in Geelong in 1946. He has had a background as a commercial and advertising photography for over 40 years, although these days he only makes images for himself. His photographic career includes stints in photographic education, as an independent curator of photography, and he is the designer, editor and publisher of the free online photography magazine BETA developments in photography. In 2005 he founded the Daylesford Foto Biennale, which morphed into the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, of which he was Festival Director up until 2016 when he retired to concentrate on his own fine arts practice. He has had nearly 70 solo exhibitions as well as participating in numerous group shows, and has lectured and judged photography both in Australia and all over the world. In 2017 he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal [OAM] for his services to photography.
He usually makes his images in series with an exhibition in mind. You can see many of these series at his website http://jeffmoorfoot.com.au His works on blue thumb are mostly single images made in small editions and printed on Ilford Galerie smooth cotton rag with Epson Ultrachrome inks. Much of his current work is made on a flatbed scanner instead of with a camera. His works are available only unframed and in one size, A2 or 42cm x 59.4. He doesnโt take on commissioned work. He lives in Lyonville in the Victorian Central Highlands in a home he designed and built himself.
