My aim in painting this still life was to keep the subject as simple as possible, allowing for the discovery of beauty in the various forms, tones, and colours within.
There is a stark contrast in the various surfaces. Solid, against transparent, and natural against those manufactured artificially. Apples are timeless as is the wood from the table. The white emphasises the ‘pop’ of colour of a simple apple elevating it in importance. So much was about getting the balance right even if not a traditional placement of the elements. Even the more abstract background emphasises the contrasts.
As my work is usually very complex, this style makes it an unique and interesting addition to my portfolio.
