This Australian landscape has been mixed with a variation of the same scene covered with a lacy pattern by weaving the two image together to create a picture a little reminiscent of toile fabirc. Toile was a decorative pattern usually consisting of a single color from the mid-18th century, usually depicting a landscape or pastoral theme. Growing up surrounded by chintz patterns like toile, Bell's works are somewhat a reference to her childhood.

About Jennifer Bell's work
The dominance of pattern in Bell’s practice is attributed to her experience of an uncommon neuro-ophthalmological condition. The artists’s visual field is filled with patterned dots characterised by movement. While it may not be a visual experience shared by many, our surroundings are full of man-made and naturally occurring patterns. Bell’s work points us towards such beauty of the ordinary.
