The landscape featured in this work is based upon that used in my oil painting of the same name. The landscape features the Dead Sea‚ near the fortress of Masada‚ in Israel.
My main intention with this image was to convey a great sense of perspective and the epic‚ indicated by the placement of the platform at the bottom of the work. Upon this platform we can stand and gaze across the vast desert landscape ahead and allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by ancient history and the span of time.
I also wanted to fuse a sense of the modern (embodied in the abstract forms and the platform) with the ancient/archaic which is encapsulated in the landscape‚ the ornament and the Mycenaean column on the right.
