Not my usual theme of Australian outback art, but... During World War Two regional and remote Australia supported an extensive network of Royal Australian Air Force training bases, repair facilities and staging areas. In addition, northern Australia contained a network of airfields from which RAAF and United States Army Air Force aircraft flew missions against the Japanese in the Pacific. In 1942 RAAF squadrons flying Kittyhawk fighters were pivotal in repelling the invading Japanese at Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea.
