Deserted stone farmhouses are common across South Australia's grain growing districts. After the First and Second World Wars, the SA Government offered land and support for returned servicemen to establish farms in regional areas. Sadly, many of the blocks were too small to support the veterans and their families and were subsequently abandoned. Mechanisation and the consolidation of small farms also lead to the desertion of old farmhouses. These buildings, many with associated vehicles and machinery, now sit in silent testament to past hopes and endeavours.
