This piece celebrates the positive energy in life shining through negative perceptions. Glossy yellows, whites and gold are indicative of pure joy and happiness, while the darker areas of grey and black denote the rules and restrictions we put on ourselves. The figure stands joyous, basking in the positive light. Although this piece has no religious subject matter, the method of application was influenced by the early 14th Century Zen Buddhist paintings from the Kamakura period.
