From the age of 9 I was painting still life in oils. Nearly 40 years later and I am still obsessed by still life. It's been 25years since i started layering music sheets on my black and white nude drawings and still life paintings. It was my unique way of adding depth and interest and often my initial inspiration to the composition. I aim to harmonize the traditional with the modern "For me, still life is everywhere we look. It is the face of time and culture. From the fresques at Pompeii, to Bruegel's interiors or Gaugin's fruit. .... we understand it and recognise it. I take objects that are often overlooked, but we see everyday and bring them to life for all of us to admire. My inspiration is to capture the quiet, simple, timeless objects of our daily life....." "My aim is to paint pictures that people can live with and look at with increasing pleasure - to capture a feeling or a moment in time which then becomes timeless... the colours and textures of fruit, the reflection on a glass vase, table tops catching the morning or afternoon light, cherries falling off the tablecloths." And if my paintings evoke in the viewer a sense of tranquillity and balance, then I’m satisfied and ready to start again...
