Uplifting vibrancy, maximalist pattern, and stunning colour combinations come to life in inspiring artworks that are infused with joy and wow. Dive into the eye-catching, bright optimism for total colour overload and a vivid jolt of happiness.
THE INTERWEAVE COLLECTION
The series combines my love of craft with my passion for painting, using weaving techniques to create stunning textile like works that lift from the support.
THE PROCESS
Sculptural works that weave completely unsupported paintings that have no other material present (no canvas or paper backing) in a way that resembles fabric. The technique is one I have been developing for a number of years during my Fine Art degree studies. It is time consuming and requires a great deal of attention to detail, but it is also meditative and completely absorbing. I feel that paint is much underrated as a dry material and, for me, it is far more interesting in that state than when wet.
THE BACK STORY
An innate urge to chop things up and put them back together again.
I manipulate dried paint exploiting its flexibility through cutting and then weaving the fragile strips from various paintings in order to create a new, more secure whole.
Inspired primarily by the breakdown and subsequent rebuilding of social networks experienced during relocating informs my practice of constructing, deconstructing and remaking my work resulting in highly unique paintings that emulate the draping and folding of textiles.
INFORMATION FOR COLLECTORS
The work is varnished and glued into place on a wooden panel. It is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. The fixings are attached to a wooden framework which allows the work to appear to float an inch from the wall.
On the front I write my initials. On the back you will find the Title, my signature, and the year.
This artwork is registered on the NRAA (National Registry for Australian Artists). This ensures that you are buying a genuine product created by a resident Aussie artist. Details of the registration is adhered to the back of the work.
The painting is sent with a Certificate of Authenticity.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
Born in the UK and settling in Australia in 2005 after 12 international moves in 17 years, I feel my life has been a patchwork of cultures. This plays out in my need to fragment my work. I seem incapable of seeing a painting as finished until it has been deconstructed and remade in various ways.
I have been a full time artist for many years, working across various mediums, including fibre and glass. I have been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles and am a published author with my book ‘Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic’ as well as writing for other art publications. I have also been a guest speaker and writer for Radio National in their series on Colour Theory. I have been represented and exhibited in New York and Italy as well as Melbourne. My artworks are held in private collections in the UK, Sweden, Italy, the USA and Australia.
Currently I am studying for my BFA with a double major in Painting and Sculpture, graduating in August 2019.
