I create exceptionally intricate works that draw the viewer in to gaze and become lost in an abstract landscape, or stare at an underwater garden that is part dream part reality . Immigrating to Australia in the late 1970s, from Cape Town, South Africa, I now call Phillip Island in Victoria, my home. I think my works echo the land and sea that I have the privilege of seeing every day.
My world around me, inspires me.
Upon the completion of a Bachelor in Visual Arts with Honours, I converted my artistic efforts initially into writing and illustrating a succession of children’s books, primarily comprised of hyper realistic, labyrinthine portrayals of real and imagined creatures. These detailed visual descriptions have, unintentionally, forged their way into the central theme of my current work.
I use a combination of canvas and board, my works frequently amalgamate acrylics, pastels, paint markers and sometimes even embroidery to create a highly texturised appearance. Each piece, large or small may take me hours and hours as I layer the background before starting the patterning. The process is very rarely pre-planned, instead it is an intuitive ebb and flow.
My dream is to share my work with fellow lovers of the beauty of the natural world and what it can show us if we stop and look very closely.
