Flowers feature in much of the Artists work, and the Banksia and Protea flowers are native to both Australia and South Africa, with a strong connection to both countries, coupled with a passion for flowers and nature this body of work is a natural progression from the abstract poppies that the artist is known for.
Using real flowers set up in the artists studio, she applies many layers of paint using abstract methods over many days until the form and color emerges from the canvas, this beautiful bouquet has been captured in a painterly way, typifying the artists technique.
Artist statement. "Just like resolving issues in everyday life, the process of painting for me can be likened to this, it is much the same. One takes steps to resolve an issue just as I take steps to add layers of paint, allowing the composition to emerge from the canvas until ultimately it is resolved. It's thus so much more than just a creative process, it has a goal and an ultimate outcome.
I am influenced by my surroundings, especially in nature and our beautiful landscapes on the Gold Coast. Situations and events have a big impact on my work, to the extent that I am fully invested emotionally and connected with the final outcome.
I love working with color, it evokes an emotional response, for me there is a strength and passion attached to applying color to a canvas. I have always been fearless with color which for me represents resilience, the colors can be both primary or subtle, the impact and response is the same.
Thank you for looking and I hope that you also make an emotional connection with my work.
