”Painting by the Sea” was painted on location at the Hervey Bay Boat Harbour as part of the annual celebration and blessing of the town’s whale-watching fleet. The varied shades of green are indicative of the shore front’s vegetation, the blue and turquoise hues of the ocean, the brilliant white of the sea spray, and the violet late-afternoon shadows cast by the slowly setting sun. The direction of the brushstrokes and the drippy splashes of paint envoke thoughts of the rhythmic action of the ocean’s waves and its cool sea breezes. Lively dashes and dots of paint speak of the happy, buzzing atmosphere of the event that went on around me as I painted and of my joy in painting beside the sea. It is my hope that this artwork will bring the same atmosphere, thoughts and emotions in those who choose to give it a new home.
