Birds symbolise freedom as well as spirit. This painting was purely self indulgent and painted without a plan. I was enjoying the pleasure of putting paint on a canvas and just being in the moment, not knowing what might emerge. This is how a painting often begins, without stress. The hard part is knowing when to stop. I have decided to stop here for the moment. Is it done? Some famous artist once said “ a painting is never finished , only abandoned ...” can’t remember the exact quote.
