Much smaller than my other work, this piece is one of a pair of little pieces painted in between sessions of intense gardening in the heat of summer., when we had let the weeds overrun the garden too long and had to put in a few days of hard work. This piece is cool drinks in the shade, hats cast off, the hum of bees and tickling grass on ankles. I actually found it really difficult to work at this size and still get what I felt onto canvas, so it was an interesting challenge to paint - it was also an interesting challenge to paint fast enough that no one asked questions about where I was instead of gardening…
