This masterpiece is unlike any I’ve done before. Starting with a muted and cold colour palette, and ending with the unusual size of the canvas, this artwork would definitely be a great fit on any wall, making a white room, with dull lighting look modern and complete.
When I came to Australia, I didn’t know about all these amazing native plants, and when I did find out about them, I fell in love with them immediately, especially the Banksia. These Australian wildflowers can be easily recognised by their characteristic flower spikes and fruiting "cones" and heads. These majestic plants can range in size from a small shrub, or maybe just a pot plant, to 30m tall trees. I firmly believe that these flowers are a very significant factor to what makes Australia so amazing and unique.
When I came home, with these magnificent plants, I set myself a goal to make a painting that will stand out in the crowd, and will make the viewers feel like they’re getting sucked into that warm day, with the smell of the beach and the shining sun making the Banksia look marvellous. Hence, the tall canvas size, that would capture the whole Banksia, not leaving anything out, and making it unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I chose to have a simple background consisted of white and blue, to contrast the foreground. The prickly leaves were made with big strokes, and their own satisfying texture. On the other hand, I decided to make the head of the Banksia with small, thorough strokes, to make it feel incredibly real, and again contrast the whole layout.
This painting is a great fit for anyone. It will make any boring house or room look amazing.
