Poppies in my opinion are the prettiest flowers there are. They are so fragile, yet so beautiful. They only last a short time, after being picked, so I try and depict them as soon as possible, to keep their young beauty. Since it’s winter, it only makes sense to have the painting kind of fit the theme. While the poppies, which are the focus of the painting, are very colourful, and their texture is very thorough, with small brush strokes, to depict the little parts they consist of. When you look at the painting, it looks like the poppies are jumping out of the canvas, almost as if they want to give you a hug. This painting uses lots of juxtaposing colours and strokes, to deliver mixed feelings of warmth and welcoming beauty. The painting makes it feel as if the flowers are really there, which they are in a way; By depicting the poppies on my canvas, I made them immortal in a way.
Even though they wither in real life, here the painting keeps them young and fresh forever.
