I live on a farm in the country where my studio backs onto the Wombat State Forest. Right now it's breeding season for the local cockatoo population. I love cockatoo, they're iconically Australian.
The other day I took a break from painting and sat on my studios porch drinking a coffee. To my surprise (and delight) a cocky flew down and started walking around the grass a few meters in front of me. I find it surreal to come close to wild animals, it's as if you reach a mutual understanding as you both cautiously eye each other.
I named this wild cocky Elvis and painted this work in his honor. I love working with thick buttery paint, it gives an energy to the piece. This work comes framed as pictured.
