Mixed Media on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
This mixed media, stylised, figurative work has been rendered in the lushous pastels of the Rococo era.
The idea for this painting was first germinated from some holiday photos I had taken of the Alhambra Palace and Gardens in Granada Spain. The exquisit Moorish architecture of the 13th Century and the beautiful perfumed gardens full of orange blossoms complete with peacocks roaming in the background, set the stage for the heavenly vision of Venus to appear. Here I have depicted her demurely flirting and offering the peacock (a god in disguise) an orange from the orchard. Her son cupid tugging at her robe for attention.
A planned landscape underpainting is first applied to carefully compliment the final subject matter. Some areas are purposely left to shine through with an overall fractured effect that both mimics the dappled light and ghosting of the figures as if apparitions.
Painted in Acrylic, oil and charcoal on canvas
