During a walk on the beach with my children I was given a sea sponge by my four year old son. The microscopic shapes and details in the sponge were intriguing and I started to imagine how beautiful it once must have looked under water and attached to a coral reef.
The sponge was not much larger than my hand but represented a micro world full of life and discovery. It inspired this series of four drawing which become one work when hung side by side.
I started with graphite and then painted with water colour. Finishing with collage patterned paper and glass beads to increase texture and bring them to life.
