When Kerry came across this image she was inspired by the positioning of the models arms and hands reaching forward, with an open face and flowing hair. This painting is named after the song "Human" by The Killers - their lyrics questioning "are we human, or are we dancer". The lead singer Brandon Flowers says that the song was written in response to an American journalists claim that America was "raising a generation of dancers, afraid to take one step out of line". Flowers writes about the fear of possibility and moving into the unknown - he tells us to close our eyes, clear your heart, and take the plunge. An uplifting message for any person breaking free of constraints. Here are some of the lyrics that inspired the title of this painting.
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes, clear your heart
Cut the cord
The flame red hair of the subject of the painting visually encapsulates the fiery spirit needed to take risks and 'cut cords'. Kerry has used a contemporary approach using techniques such as expressionism and pop art to capture her model in contrasting colours of teal, apple green, turquoise, red and orange. In this rectangular composition of an underwater world, the light highlights her hands, face and her dress as she floats just under the surface.
In this painting Kerry has used professional quality artist acrylics and mediums. The professionally stretched canvas is fitted with a wire and two D rings and is ready to hang. Kerry recommends to hang the painting directly to the wall on the D-rings or to a minimum of two hooks to the wire.
