A flock of gorgeous rainbow lorikeet visit me every morning. Their spontaneous energy and vibrant colour are constantly mesmerizing. The best way to capture then is with a loose impressionistic style that conveys so much of the experience. In this painting they sit impatiently on the perch waiting for breakfast, they have so much personality and I think this can be seen throughout the piece. Oil paint lends itself very well to this style of painting where colour needs to be sometimes very subtle and sometimes bold and dynamic. This painting presents both.
